In the third season of the Pakistan Super League, the Islamabad United restricted the Peshawar Zalmi to less than 160 before romping home to a win on the backs of the Luke Ronchi knock. He had had a brilliant PSL before smashing a fifty in the final.
In 2017 the Peshawar Zalmi had defied odds to defeat the Quetta Gladiators in the final of the second edition of the Pakistan Super League to win the title.
According to the odds released by the bookmakers around the world, the Peshawar Zalmi start off as favourites to win the title this season, but the Karachi Kings and the Quetta Gladiators aren’t too far behind.
What’s interesting to note is that the new-comers Multan Sultans are as long as 6/1 to win the title. And while it’s obvious why given how underwhelming their team looks but there could be value there if you want to dip early.
The schedule for the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League has been released and despite the owners of Multan Sultans having pulled out, the team has continued to remain in the competition and there will continue to remain six teams in the tournament.
What that means is there will be a total of 30 matches during the league stage of the PSL that will be played this season, as opposed to 20 last year and four more during the knock-out stage of the tournament. What happened in PSL 2018?
Islamabad United won the 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League by beating Peshawar Zalmi in the final by three wickets. That match was played in Karachi.
United’s win was based around Luke Ronchi’s champion leading into the final and cracking innings in the title-decider as well, and he was named the man of the match in that game along with the man of the series as well, having scored 435 runs.
Faheem Ashraf, also of Islamabad United finished with the most wickets, at 18, a record he shared with Wahab Riaz of Peshawar Zalmi.
In the league stage of the tournament, Islamabad United finished with six wins to their name to top the group while Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators were second, third and fourth respectively in the competition to qualify for the playoffs.
Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars were knocked out of the tournament early.
During the playoffs, Islamabad beat Karachi to make the final while Peshawar edged past Quetta to knock the latter out and move into the semi-final. There, they played Karachi and beat them by 13 runs before losing in the final to Islamabad.
