The HBL PSL players list is placed here. The sixth season of the Pakistan Super League will be held on February 20, 2021, and the PSL 2021 squads for all teams are now announced at the end of the PSL Draft that was held on January 10. This year, as before, all the games in the PSL will be played in Pakistan and in Karachi and Lahore only. The PSL teams 2021 list of players are below.

Now that the dust has settled following the 2021 players’ draft and the teams are confirmed, we will take a look at each squad’s strengths and weaknesses as we analyse and break them down for you. Here you will find a full, in-depth preview of things to come this year.

Islamabad United

The most successful PSL team has arguably been the busiest in terms of chopping and changing things. Following last season’s disastrous effort where they came bottom of the league standings, they have tried everything in their powers to regain those glory days of years gone by. Islamabad was involved in the season’s most significant trade as they swapped Colin Ingram for England’s T20 batting specialist Alex Hales. It’s a trade that has been hotly discussed since it was announced, with many arguing cases for both teams as to who got the better do the deal. Both players are returning to their original PSL squads, having previously played for each side in the past. They used their wildcard pick on Hasan Ali, who had previously played for Peshawar Zalmi in every other PSL edition. He will be a fantastic addition to their bowling attack that was undoubtedly lacking last year. They have also supplemented the talented Chris Jordan, who could be a significant coop for them. Assistant coach Saeed Ajmal said that the draft went exactly the way they had hoped for and that they were happy with their completed business. I think they still might be a tad short in terms of challenging for the honours this season; however, they will be more competitive.

Multan Sultans

The Sultans probably have the most experienced squad in this season’s tournament with Shahid Afridi, Imran Tahir, James Vince, Chris Lynn, and Carlos Braithwaite. Lynn and Braithwaite are new editions to the team this season, and they will offer some much-needed firepower. The Sultans are the tournament’s newest team and improved upon two fifth-placed league finishes back to back, claiming the top spot last year. However, they failed to reach the final as they lost in both eliminators. This is probably why they have opted to go down the experience route this season to see if they can get over the line and reach this year’s final. My view is that they will be there or thereabouts again this season; however, they may fall short of lifting the trophy once again.

Lahore Qalandars

Although Lahore let Chris Lynn, one of the world’s most experienced T20 batsmen in the world go, they picked up the world’s best T20 bowler in Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan. Khan’s addition is a massive scoop for last seasons losing finalists and is a move that they will be hoping will take them one step further this season. They have retained Mohamed Hafeez and Ben Dunk and supplemented England’s Joe Denly, which is possibly why they have let Chris Lynn go, as, between those three, they should be able to get off to plenty of good starts. The Qalandars have plenty of options at both ends of the crease; however, they may be lacking in the middle order, which may or may not matter as they have batsmen and bowlers that can single handily take the game away from their opponents. I predict they could again make this seasons final if they can stay injury-free and their foreign players have no trouble travelling to Pakistan.

Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar was the only PSL team not to retain eight players and instead only opted to retain five. They finished last season’s competition in fourth place and lost in the opening eliminator, and they feel that they require a change of direction. This is reflected in them releasing all-rounder Hasan Ali who spent every season with Peshawar up until now. However, they have added South Africans David Miller to their squad, making his PSL debut this season. They also added the world’s number two ranked T20 bowler in Mujeeb Ur Rehman. Mohammad Akram, the Peshawar Cricketing Director, said that their aim in the draft was to strengthen their middle order. They appear to have achieved that by signing the talented David Miller. While Peshawar Zalmi has made some excellent signings, their squad lacks depth, and they could find themselves in a similar position to last season.

Quetta Gladiators

The Gladiators have gone all out to improve upon last season’s fifth-placed finish by signing T20 legend Chris Gayle and England’s Tom Banton, who between them have a fine mixture of youth and experience. They also added Cameron Delport, who has the PSL’s fastest century, scored in just 49 balls. This combination gives them a tremendous amount of firepower, and the former PSL winners will be a match for anyone. Head coach Moin Khan spoke of their delight in capturing the experienced Chris Gayle, especially following Shane Watson’s retirement. While there is no doubt that Quetta has the best batting line up in the tournament, they lack in the bowling department, and only time will tell if their firepower up top can carry them over the line. My judgement is that it won’t be enough, and while they should improve upon last season’s fifth-place finish, I doubt they will be this year’s winners.

Karachi Kings

The reigning PSL champions have added two great all-rounders in Mohammad Nabi and Dan Christian as they look to retain their maiden tournament victory. They kept the core of their championship winnings side last year. Cricketing Director Wasim Akram recently spoke of his pleasure with how the draft went as they continued their approach to have a well-rounded team by bringing in two wold class all-rounders. The Kings aren’t particularly a squad of stars, but they have a great work ethic and team spirit, which carried them to the title last season. They will be up there again this season; however, they may come up short this season against sides that have dramatically added to their squads.

My prediction is that the league’s historically worst team, the Lahore Qalandars, will go one step further this season and lift their first-ever PSL trophy.

The country has a strong cricketing heritage and keeps dishing out prominent players on the scene. The country’s capacity at hurling fast bowlers on the cricketing arena is almost incredible.
