The Independence Cup Background:

Speaking to a Pakistani TV channel, PCB chief Shahrayan Khan had earlier announced said former Zimbabwean captain and England coach Andy Flower will take over the same role with the International XI side and the likes of Hashim Amla, Michael Clarke, Luke Ronchi and Tim Paine could well be a part of the side.

Pakistan haven’t hosted internationals since a 2009 terror attack on the Sri Lankan national side, with only a tour by the Zimbabwe side in 2015 breaking that run of eight years.

The PCB did manage to host the PSL Final at Lahore in the second season where a few international cricketers had been happy to be a part and were afforded Z-security. There are talks of eight of the games in the third edition of the PSL to be held in Pakistan but the PSL schedule for the third season is yet to be released. The World XI vs Pakistan XI tickets information will also be revealed soon and we will have all the updates on this site as usual.

More recently, in the PSL 2017 final, a total of six overseas cricketers had refused to tour the country including Kevin Pietersen, Luke Wright, Tymal Mills and Rilee Rossouw. Among the players who visited Lahore for the PSL Final were Dawid Malan, Marlon Samuels, Darren Sammy, Chris Jordan, Morne van Wyk, Anamul Haque, Sean Ervine and Rayad Emrit. The Peshawar Zalmi won the tournament by beating the Quetta Gladiators in a historic final.

The ICC had planned to host this series in order to kick-start a process through which international cricket can be reintroduced in the country after the 2009 terror attacks had left it starved of international cricket for all these years.

In recent times, only Zimbabwe has toured Pakistan for an international series, but even that news is now two years old. Last year, the PSL final was played in Pakistan while there are talks that about eight games will be held in Pakistan this season of the PSL.

Now there are also talks that Sri Lanka and West Indies will both tour Pakistan to play a few T20Is later this year.
