Pakistan advance to the semi-finals
SL vs PAK predictions and betting tips for the Champions Trophy 2017 match on 12 Jun 2017 is placed here. Pakistan will hope to make it to the 2017 Champions Trophy semi-finals when they take on Sri Lanka in the final league game of the tournament on Monday, June 12.
The tournament, despite its obvious issues with rains, has gone right down to the wire and one that will see the fourth and the final semi-final spot to be decided by the final league game that will be played on Monday. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have both got two points from two games and a win for either side in Cardiff, where this game will be played, will decide that semi-finalist.
As things stand, the winner of this Pakistan-Sri Lanka encounter will face the hosts England in the first semi-final of the competition. That semi-final will be played in Cardiff on Wednesday. The other semi-final will see India and Bangladesh clash in Birmingham.
Pakistan looked down and out in the competition after having been sent packing in their opening game by India. It was a pungent defeat in the sense that not only did it come at the hands of India, their arch-rivals, it was also so one-sided that most hope was lost from their fans going into their next game against South Africa.
As it turned out, Pakistan shocked the world and probably their own fans with a defeat of South Africa, the number one side in the world. That was also a win that could be attributed to the Pakistan bowling which came out on top, restricting South Africa to a measley 200-odd score. They were on their way to the win before rain came in and disrupted the game but not before the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system had swung the game in their favour.
Sri Lanka have a similar story. After a crushing defeat at the hands of South Africa, they looked like they were headed home when they took on the other favourites, India. In fact they were happy to go into the game as underdogs and when India scored 321, it looked like they would go down in a hurry. They came back strongly through their top-order and captain Angelo Mathews who guided them to an easy win in the end.
The win was achieved for the loss of three wickets and with plenty of overs to spare but came at the expense of an injury to Kusal Perera. Perera has been ruled out of the tournament and it will now be interesting to see how they go in the lead-up to this game. Will they make any changes other the forced move to replace Perera?
Pakistan could look to go in with the same playing XI.
