Pakistan won by 19 runs (by DLS method)

Pakistan vs South AfricaPAK vs SA predictions and betting tips for the Champions Trophy 2017 match on 07 Jun 2017 is placed here. Pakistan will hope to keep their campaign in the 2017 Champions Trophy alive when they take on South Africa in the seventh game of the competition on June 7. The match will be played in Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Starts to the two teams have been contrasting. South Africa were convincing in their win over Sri Lanka in their first game while Pakistan did not have a chance against India. A defeat to the Indians is always a bitter pill to swallow but what makes it worse for Pakistan is the manner of the loss.

Pakistan were left with a 124-run pumelling to India with their bowlers first conceding 319 in the 48 overs to India and then their batsmen failing to get anywhere close to the target. In fact the chase was so lethargic that coach Mickey Arthur came to front the media and said he will need to take stock of the situation.

Arthur also said the situation might have gotten to Pakistan, i.e. the issue of playing India in an ICC event but it needs to be seen whether that’s just a way of deflecting the blame instead of accepting the lack of depth in the Pakistani side.

What also needs to be seen is who comes into the playing XI for Pakistan after Wahab Riaz damaged his ankle and was ruled out of the competition. Riaz proved to be a costly option and went for a few runs as well and while the coach defended his selection, there was no doubting his place in the side was always going to be in jeopardy after losing confidence so badly.

Junaid Khan looks to be a good option to take on his spot. The batting might be afforded another opportunity but they will need to come really good against a side that has a strong bowling attack.

South Africa will start off as obvious favourites, having been one of the top two sides in the competition to have gone in as bookmakers’ delight. Their top-order managed to demolish the Sri Lankan bowling and then ran through their batting for an easy win.

A win here for South Africa will mostly take them to the semi-finals while the other spot will be left for Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka to fight for. Interesting game ahead.
