Pakistan-Afghanistan T20 friendlies Canceled
Pakistan and Afghanistan will play two T20s against each other. More importantly, they will play those games in Pakistan and Afghanistan respectively – one apiece. They wouldn’t be given the status of internationals – they will be friendlies – but one can expect hoardes of crowd to make it to the stadium for both those games.
The Afghanistan-Pakistan game in Kabul will be played in July before the Afghan side will return to Lahore for the second game that will be played in August.
ACB chairman Atif Mashal and his group of board members spoke with PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and following their long chat, the PCB said they would be happy to provide Afghanistan with training and conditioning facilities and venues.
Speaking to the media, the Afghan board chairman said:
The relationship between the two boards and the two nations is historic. It is not new. I am here to renew our commitment and sports should not be influenced by the politics of two governments.
I am happy to have great discussion with Pakistan Cricket Board and agreed on various plans. We are renewing this relation with a friendly match between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Kabul and then we will return to Pakistan to play one. We have also agreed to play a bilateral series for which dates will be decided later.
Earlier, the Afghanistan cricket team practiced in Greater Noida in India following issues with the PCB that had arisen in 2013. Afghanistan have played internationals in Pakistan and had also participated in the Pakistani domestic competition earlier.
Mashal clarified that their relationship with Indian cricket doesn’t change at all. He said having a relationship with the Pakistan cricket board did not mean they wouldn’t have one with India as well. The Pakistan vs Afghanistan T20 matches bilateral series tickets information will be released soon here.
