Pakistan T20 Team Squad 2016

Pakistan T20 Asia cup squad is updated here. The Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2016 and the ICC World T20 has been named by the selectors, as a total of 15 players have made it to the list.

The team is set to be captained by the veteran Shahid Afridi, who is undoubtedly their best player in the T20 format. Holding a series of records, his experience will certainly come in handy as he leads Pakistan in Bangladesh later this month for the Asia Cup. He will be accompanied by yet another experienced cricketer Shoaib Malik, who too has been included in the list.

Pakistan T20 Squad 2016 Asia Cup

Pakistan announced the below squad for Asia Cup & World T20 2016;

  • Shahid Afridi (captain)
  • Umar Akmal
  • Mohammad Hafeez
  • Mohammad Amir
  • Shoaib Malik
  • Sarfraz Ahmed
  • Iftikhar Ahmed
  • Imad Wasim
  • Anwar Ali
  • Mohammad Irfan
  • Wahab Riaz
  • Sharjeel Khan
  • Mohammad Nawaz
  • Khurram Manzoor
  • Mohammad Sami

The players who have been shown the exit are Ahmed Shehzad and the veteran pacer Umar Gul. Shehzad, who served as the opening batsmen for Pakistan, has been asked to sit out owing to a poor batting performance against New Zealand in the T20 series last month. Instead of him, Khurram Manzoor has been given a chance, who will be playing in his maiden T20 international.

The 21 year old spinner Mohammad Nawaz has also been included in the squad, following his excellent stint in the 2016 Pakistan Super League. Having claimed the Man of the Match award twice in four games, he has certainly impressed the selectors. Along with him, Wahab Riaz too has been given a chance to show his worth, after having a decent run in the league.

In fact, PSL has served as a benchmark for the selectors, who took three days more than the expected deadline to make the decision. Umar Akmal, who plays for Lahore Qalandars along with Mohammad Hafeez and Sarfraz Ahmed have been given the opportunity to shine on the international stage.

Having won the tournament in 2009, the team has suffered a massive drop in form since then. However, with new faces in the squad, it will be interesting to see if they can make to the latter stages of the tournaments.
