In what comes as big news from the Pakistan Super League, the Lahore Qalandars have gotten into a deal the Big Bash League to participate in a tri-series in November.
The Qalandars, who did have not a good first season, as they finished the season with just two wins and at the fifth and bottom most place in the points table, will take on the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers in a tri-series in Australia. Interestingly, this is the first of its kind tri-series involving T20 league teams.
The contract between the Qalandars and the Sydney sides was signed around the time when Paddy Upton was appointed the coach of the Qalandars. Upton is the coach of the Sydney Thunder side as well.
The Lahore Qalandars squad for this series has also been announced and while the main players, i.e. those featuring for Pakistan on their tour of New Zealand and other overseas players, won’t be around for this series, the rest of the squad will try and get some valuable practice from the series.
Lahore Qalandars Squad for the Series: Saadullah, Tabriaz, Ameer, Rafeh, Sikandar, Najid, Ghulaam, Saif, Yasir, Usman, Ahmed, Ehtisham, M. Irfan, M. Umar, and Mudassar.
The initiative is known as the Jazz Rising Stars and will see the organisers look to develop the next generation of those playing cricket.
The GM of the Sydney Sixers, Dom Redmond, said the tournament between these three teams was “an incredible open door for our academy players to get polished with International ability”.
The dates and the schedule for this tri-series involving Lahore Qalandars, Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder will be announced at a later date.
