The Karachi Kings take on Peshawar Zalmi in the third playoffs game of the third season of the Pakistan Super League. This game will be played on Wednesday in Lahore. The match will begin at 7 pm PST (2 pm GMT).
It took a heart-stopping victory in the Eliminator to take the Zalmis through to this semi-final against the Karachi Kings. They were asked to bat first by the Quetta Gladiators, something that would have made things even more difficult for them but a Liam Dawson special took them to somewhat of a stiff score of 157 from their 20 overs.
Still, on a flat Lahore pitch that should have been chased down. And when the captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz were going so well for the Quetta side, the game looked to have slipped out of the Zalmis hands.
Sameen Gul bowled a couple of bouncers to pick up both their wickets, and off successive deliveries, and despite Dawson conceding 23 runs from the final over, the Zalmis managed to carve out a single-run win.
Karachi would be wondering what hit them in their Qualifier against the Islamabad United. They looked to have done reasonably well after losing 17 for 2 to recover and score 154 for four in their 20 overs but if they thought they could stop Luke Ronchi, they were mistaken.
Ronchi smashed the Karachi bowlers to all parts of the ground to get to a score of 94 from 39 and Islamabad United chased those runs down in 12.3 overs. Yep, the Kings lost with 45 balls to spare. Yep, that’s right, the biggest defeat in PSL in terms of balls remaining.
And it won’t be a happy feeling going over against the Zalmis, who would believe they have the momentum going with them.
It would be interesting to see what teams turn out for the respective sides for this game – Peshawar Zalmi could still lose out on Darren Sammy, who hobbled through most part of the game and ended up costing his side a few runs. On the other hand, Imad Wasim had missed the previous match while Shahid Afridi has also had fitness struggles going for him.
The overseas players for the two squads are as follows:
Karachi Kings: Lendl Simmons, Joe Denly, Colin Ingram, Tymal Mills, David Wiese, Ravi Bopara.
Peshawar Zalmi: Darren Sammy, Andre Fletcher, Liam Dawson, Chris Jordan, Tamim Iqbal, Riki Wessels.
