Karachi Kings Imad Wasim will join Durham for a few matches in the NatWest T20 Blast this year.
Wasim, who is the number one bowler in the ICC World T20 Bowlers’ Rankings, was born in the UK, and has played in 26 ODIs and 19 T20Is for Pakistan. He will now feature for Durham in England’s T20 competition, the T20 Blast that kick-started earlier this month.
He had earlier also played for Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, a tournament they had gone on to win by beating India in the final. Wasim will play five games for Durham before he leaves the country to join his team in the Caribbean Premier League.
Durham are currently struggling in the T20 Blast after having lost one of their overseas players, Tom Latham to an injury. They have played two games and lost both of them and will hope they can turn things around to make it to the quarter-finals.
In the previous edition of the Pakistan Super League, Wasim played in 10 games and picked up just eight wickets. However, his economy of 6.58 was on the lower side and he generally gave his Karachi Kings captain control over the proeedings. Wasim is still waiting on his work permit to join the county.
Durham is one of the 18 teams who are participating in the T20 Blast, and they were the runner-up last season. They have never won a domestic T20 title, having gotten to the final just once – in 2016.
