Hyderabad, Faisalabad Shortlisted Among Five Regions for Sixth PSL team

New franchise to be added for third edition of Pakistan Super League

Multan becomes PSL’s sixth team

The Pakistan Cricket Board has shortlisted five regions in Pakistan as probable options for the sixth team in the Pakistan Super League. The PSL had earlier announced that the 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League will have an extra team over and above the five sides that have played in the competition in the first two seasons.

The five potential regions who are in with a chance of forming a sixth PSL franchise are FATA, Dera Murad Jamali, Hyderabad, Faisalabad and Multan.

According to a report on Geo.TV, a PCB spokesperson had informed the channel that the announced regions were selected on the basis of “provincial representation and domestic cricket ranking on merit.”

What’s next?

Potential bidders who want to own any one of these five regions for the sixth PSL team will now be asked to collect documents from the PCB by May 15, 2017.

Technical and financial proposals will then be needed to submitted to the PCB in separate sealed copies based on the format asked by the cricket board by May 30, 2017.

On that very day, these two documents will be opened and read out and the potential franchises will be selected to qualify for the next round on the basis of the technical proposals.

This will be followed by the opening of the financial bids of those who have qualified for the next round based on their technical bids. This will happen on May 31.

What about the players for the sixth team?

Players from the first five teams will be released after they can retain a few of them. These players will form a pool for the sixth team to pick from before the Draft begins. They will be allowed to pick players for all the categories such that they go into the 2018 PSL Draft with the same level of players as the first five teams.

The sixth team is expected to get 10 players from those released by the first five teams. These 10 players will be distributed among the five categories; Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging Players.

How much will the PCB earn out of the sixth team?

Well, that depends on how much is bid by the potential franchises but according to some reports that figure is said to be USD 5 million.
